This document has been prepared as a
background report for the Thai Marine Rehabilitation Plan 1997-2001. This study was
commissioned under a joint project between the Department of Fisheries and the Joint
Research Centre of the Commission of the European Communities for the preparation of the
Plan. The data for this report was obtained from official statistics, reviews of major
legislation, fisheries literature and interviews with high ranking officials in relevant
government agencies, academics and industry analyst.
